Dental Bridges – What You Need to Know
A dental bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth. It quite literally “bridges the gap” left by lost teeth, restoring not only your smile but also your ability to chew properly and speak clearly. Dental bridges also support your facial structure, preventing the sunken look that can come with missing teeth and helping maintain a more youthful appearance.
Bridges are typically supported by your natural teeth or by dental implants and are made up of one or more artificial teeth anchored in place by crowns on the adjacent teeth. There are two main types: a Traditional Fixed Dental Bridge, which is supported by natural teeth, and a Fixed Implant-Supported Bridge, which is anchored with dental implants.

Why Choose a Dental Bridge?
Dental bridges are a reliable, long-term solution to restore function and aesthetics after tooth loss. They help you chew comfortably, speak clearly, and smile confidently. A bridge also prevents the surrounding teeth from shifting out of place, which can cause bite issues over time. Unlike removable dentures, a dental bridge stays fixed in place, offering both stability and natural appearance.

Important Things to Know About Dental Bridges
To prepare for a dental bridge, the teeth adjacent to the gap will need to be reshaped to make room for the supporting crowns. Your cosmetic dentist will then take impressions of your teeth and gums. While your permanent bridge is being crafted in the dental lab (which usually takes around two weeks), you’ll be given a temporary bridge to protect the area and maintain your smile and bite.
At your follow-up appointment, your temporary bridge will be removed and your custom-made, lab-fabricated bridge will be permanently bonded in place. With proper care, a dental bridge can last many years and restore both comfort and confidence in your smile.
