Botox & TMJ Appliances
What Is TMJ?
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ) affects the joint connecting your jaw to your skull. When this joint is strained, misaligned, or inflamed, it can result in a wide variety of uncomfortable symptoms. These include jaw pain, difficulty chewing, headaches, clicking or popping sounds when opening the mouth, and teeth grinding (bruxism).
TMJ Appliance
The TMJ Appliance works best for extra-capsular relief. It decompresses the joint, which helps eliminate bruxing and grinding due to its dual-action effect. Relief is also achieved by altering the relaxed length of the jaw muscles when the appliance is worn. This treatment targets symptoms of TMJ disorder as well as cranio-mandibular discomfort, helping patients experience increased comfort and improved function.
The appliance fits 95% of adults and requires no impressions, moulding, or adjustments. Made of soft silicone, it’s gentle on painful joints and muscles, and very easy to use. Most patients wear it for one hour during the day and overnight while sleeping. Symptom relief is often experienced within the first few weeks, though continued use for 30 to 60 days may be necessary to fully gauge results.
Botox for TMJ
For patients with moderate to severe TMJ symptoms, Botox is an excellent option. Administered in small, targeted doses, Botox relaxes the overactive jaw muscles that contribute to clenching and grinding. It helps relieve jaw tension, headaches, facial pain, and other TMJ-related symptoms. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and results typically appear within a few days.
Botox treatment may be recommended as a standalone solution or in combination with a TMJ appliance for comprehensive relief.
